WHAT WE DO

We pursue proactive strategies to develop and empower women and girls to take on leadership roles in their communities through: training, mentoring, capacity building and coaching. QueenMakers was founded upon the belief that the full and active participation of women in economic activities and decision-making is a pre-requisite for positive change and development in Sub Saharan Africa. We also firmly believe that an investment in women’s leadership training, mentoring, capacity building and coaching will result in a world that is a better place for all.

WHY WE DO IT

As it stands, entrepreneurship will be the broad-based driver of economic growth for Africa with the potential to create jobs for the more than 200 million young Africans between ages 15 and 24. However, whilst Sub Saharan Africa has the highest rate of female entrepreneurship across the world (27%), the typical business profile is a consumer-oriented, one-woman enterprise with no employees and low expectations for future growth.

There are numerous NGO and skill building programs focused on micro and small businesses, but limited attention has been paid to investing in high growth female entrepreneurs who have the greatest potential to create large enterprises. It is these women who have the power to become global leaders and effect change on a mass scale.

QUEENMAKERS BREAKFAST SEMINARS

We welcome professional women, entrepreneurs and businesswomen in private sector, public sector, small and medium sized enterprises, industry experts and business leaders to come together to learn, share experiences and expand their network of trusted contacts. We aim is to provide a platform for the formalization and growth of the women in these sectors.

QUEENMAKERS COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Through our community outreach events, we get to meet with women at the grassroots and become in touch with the realities faced by them that affect their socio-economic progress. These events bring together women from different backgrounds, providing a plat- form to discuss critical issues that affect their personal and economical growth.

QUEENMAKERS DAY

Every year on the 19th of September, we celebrate QueenMakers Day under the theme “Take A Girl Child To Work.” The day is set to be an annual corporate social investment event, where companies involved will host female students between the ages of 16 and 18 years to spend the day at their place of work. The initiative will be targeted at students from disadvantaged backgrounds throughout the country.

Founded on our belief that women have the capacity to contribute to the economy and create employment, this day greatly impacts young women. First-hand exposure to workspaces enables

them to dream BIG and be inspired by other women in those spaces. By investing in young women to think about the future that they would like for themselves, QueenMakers believes that this possibility will become a reality.

The economic and social hardships being experienced in the nation have put a dent in women empowerment as young women have lost focus and resort to taking shortcuts to their success as they focus on taking care of their families and leaving school at a young age due to pregnancy or early child marriages.

Many are born into families who don’t work in corporate settings, run businesses nor work in professions such as engineering, aviation, banking, medicine or law. Thus many would lack exposure and positive advice about their careers which, in the long run, will have an impact on their confidence, self-belief and ambitions.

We believe that this day, even though it is once a year, will have a far-reaching impact. Showing girls working places and early encouragement to work will motivate and inspire them to reach their full potential.
